Choosing the right equipment for EMF assessment in defense applications
The main sources of electromagnetic radiation in the defense sector are radar stations, satellite equipment, communication equipment, etc which need to be assessed using the right equipment.
Pulsed signals are predominantly used in defense applications which typically operate within the range of several kilohertz (kHz) to gigahertz (GHz).
The measurement instrument used should be capable of detecting these short pulses used in applications such as radar. For example, an important application in defense is measuring the output power of a scanning radar where standard broadband probes a thermocouple probes are unable to correctly capture the radar illumination (few milliseconds) due to the limitations of the integration time of these probes. Due to this limitation, there is a higher attenuation when scanning radar signals are measured.
In the webinar of October, we will review solutions suitable for scanning radar measurements and other applications. We will talk about the portable SMP3 meter and area monitors, used with the fast probes from Wavecontrol can achieve an integration time of 4 milliseconds to correctly measure or calculate the maximum output values of these radars.
